The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) is urgently finalizing procedures to commence construction of Runway No. 2 by late May or early June, aiming to bring Long Thanh International Airport in southern Dong Nai province into full operation in the first half of 2026.
According to the plan, Runway No. 2 will require 12 months of construction and will be operational alongside Runway No. 1, which has been completed ahead of schedule and is ready for calibration flights.
Regarding connecting transport infrastructure, Route T1—the section linking National Highway 51 to Long Thanh International Airport—was substantially completed in April 2025, with two-thirds of the asphalt concrete layers paved. Meanwhile, work on Route T2, connecting to the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, is being expedited for completion before National Day (September 2).
Additionally, bidding packages related to the aircraft apron and fuel supply system are meeting key requirements and are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Currently, one of the biggest challenges facing the project is a shortage of construction materials, particularly stone.
Amid pressures on the timeline and supply chain, ACV has requested the Ministry of Construction to collaborate with local authorities in removing obstacles and ensuring a steady supply of materials, particularly construction stone, to maintain the progress of this critical national aviation infrastructure project.
