Construction of the Dai Ngai Bridge, connecting the Mekong Delta’s Tra Vinh and Soc Trang provinces, is scheduled to get underway on October 20.
The Prime Minister approved the project in July, 2022.
The 15.14-km bridge has total investment capital of over VND8 trillion ($333 million), from the State budget.
The project includes seven bridges in total and five intersections, with the Dai Ngai Bridge being the main component.
It will have four lanes and allow a maximum speed of 80 kph.
The project is aimed at connecting localities in the Mekong Delta along National Highway No. 60. Upon completion, it will help cut the travel distance from the region to Ho Chi Minh City by some 80 km compared to the current route along National Highway No. 1.
It will also help ease traffic congestion on National Highway No. 1 and meet the rising transportation demand among local industrial parks.
