The Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) has started to resume construction of the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway after selecting contractors for the remaining contract packages.
The 57.8-km expressway runs through the Mekong Delta’s Long An province, Ho Chi Minh City, and southern Dong Nai province.
Work began in 2014, with capital estimated at over VND31.3 trillion ($1.32 billion).
It was initially expected to be completed in 2020, but fell behind schedule due to difficulties in site clearance and capital arrangements.
The project has eleven contract packages.
The four-lane expressway, which will also have two emergency lanes, allows a maximum speed of 100 km/h in the first phase. It is expected to boost links between the Mekong Delta and the southern region.
