A groundbreaking ceremony of the Hanoi–Thai Nguyen–Cho Moi Expressway (CT.07), a public-private partnership (PPP) project with a total investment of more than VND21 trillion ($803 million), was held on June 30.
Under the approved design, the expressway will begin in Thu Lam Commune, Hanoi, and extend to the Thanh Binh interchange, where it will connect with the Cho Moi–Bac Kan Expressway.
The current Hanoi–Thai Nguyen expressway section will be upgraded from four lanes to six lanes, with a 34.5-metre-wide roadbed, while the Thai Nguyen–Cho Moi section will be completed as a four-lane expressway.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Le Tien Chau said the project carries strategic significance as Vietnam pursues its ambition of achieving double-digit economic growth.
He described the Hanoi–Thai Nguyen–Cho Moi Expressway as a key transport corridor for the northern midland and mountainous region, helping ease traffic congestion on National Highway 3, shorten travel times, lower logistics costs and strengthen interregional connectivity.
The route is also expected to improve links with international economic corridors, supporting broader regional trade and economic integration.
