Construction of My Thuy Seaport to restart in February

Xuân Nghi -

Central region port project experiencing delays due to obstacles in site clearance.

Construction of the My Thuy Seaport in central Quang Tri province continues to be delayed but is expected to restart in February, according to the Management Board of Quang Tri Economic Zones.

The project is facing further delays as a result of site clearance obstacles and an approaching wet season.

The Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee had earlier asked authorities in Hai Lang district, where the seaport is located, to complete site clearance for the first phase of the project before August 30, 2023, and directed the project investor to resume construction in September.

However, obstacles remain in site clearance. Implementation requires a change of forestry use purpose, which is expected to be approved by the Prime Minister this month.

The Management Board of Quang Tri Economic Zones said site clearance is expected to be completed this month and land will be handed over to the investor before October 30.

However, between October and February is the wet season in the central region so construction is scheduled to get underway in February.

The project was approved by the Prime Minister in January 2019, with construction beginning on February 27, 2020 before it was delayed.

Total investment stands at over VND14.2 trillion ($592 million).

The 685-ha port is designed to have ten wharves capable of berthing vessels of up to 100,000 tons.
