Construction of a 500 kV transmission line connecting a power substation in central Quang Nam province with the Monsoon Wind Farm in Laos kicked off on September 30.

The project has total investment capital of VND1.1 trillion ($45.8 million).

The section of the transmission line in Quang Nam province is 44.71 km long. The double-circuit line connects the Monsoon Wind Farm with Quang Nam’s Thanh My 500 kV power station.

Once fully operational, the project, with a capacity of up to 2,500 MW, will contribute to improving the capacity of the national power grid via electricity imported from Laos.

However, under the power purchase contract, the line will initially transmit 600 MW of wind power from Laos to Vietnam, with an estimated annual output of 1.7 billion kWh.

The project was approved by the Prime Minister in May this year as part of the national power development planning in the 2021-2030 period with a vision towards 2050 (National Power Development Plan 8).

The implementation of the project helps realize the bilateral commitment between the governments of Vietnam and Laos in energy development.
