A project building Lai Xuan Bridge across the Da Bach River in northern Hai Phong city and renovating and expanding Provincial Road No. 352 connecting the city’s Thuy Nguyen district with Dong Trieu town in Quang Ninh province began on February 2, with total investment of nearly VND1.335 trillion (over $57 million).
The project is being funded by the Hai Phong and Quang Ninh budgets, of which VND1.322 trillion (over $56 million) will come from Hai Phong.
Of the total, investment in the construction of the 840-meter Lai Xuan Bridge is estimated at nearly VND550 billion ($21.4 million).
The remaining capital is for the renovation and expansion of Provincial Road No. 352 at a length of more than 14 km, connecting the intersection of National Highway No. 10 in Thien Huong commune, Thuy Nguyen district, with Provincial Road No. 333 in Dong Trieu town, Quang Ninh province.
Lai Xuan Bridge will be the fourth gateway to directly connect Hai Phong and Quang Ninh by road, according to Mr. Do Tuan Anh, Director of the Hai Phong Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board, the representative of the project owner.
According to analysts, Lai Xuan Bridge is important in the development of regional links. Once put into operation, the bridge will shorten the geographic distance between urban areas such as Thuy Nguyen in Hai Phong city and Dong Trieu and Uong Bi in Quang Ninh.
Along with inland waterways and sea routes, Lai Xuan Bridge will form an inter-connected transportation network creating a driving force for development in goods trade and human resources supply, contributing to improving the socio-economic efficiency of the two most dynamic coastal economic zones in Vietnam’s north: the Dinh Vu - Cat Hai Economic Zone in Hai Phong and the Quang Yen Coastal Economic Zone in Quang Ninh.
The project will also open up more space and increase real estate values in the two economic zones and neighboring areas.
It is to be completed in December 2024.
