CT Group proposes building $9.9bln high-speed railway from HCMC to Can Tho

Railway would link southern city with Mekong Delta localities.

The CT Group has proposed that the Prime Minister approve investment of $9.98 billion in building a high-speed railway linking Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta’s Can Tho city.

Such a railway would form part of railway network development planning in the 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2050, approved by the Prime Minister in 2021.

It will be invested in under the public-private partnership (PPP) form.

The railway line will stretch 174 km and have 12 stations, passing through Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Long An, Tien Giang, and Vinh Long provinces, and Can Tho.

It is expected to secure approval this year. Site clearance will be conducted throughout 2025 and 2026.

Completion is scheduled for 2032.

The railway is expected to carry 16.4 million passengers and 19.1 million tons of cargo each year by 2035 and 42 million passengers and 81 million tons of cargo by 2050.
