The central highlands’ Dak Lak province exported its first container of macadamias to South Korea on January 3, the Nhan Dan (People) online newspaper reported.

Weighing over 10 tons, the macadamias went through many examinations by authorized agencies and met all requirements, including those on food safety.

Dak Lak has a macadamia cultivation area of more than 4,500 ha, with an average output of over 1,500 tons a year.

Deputy Director of the Dak Lak Department of Industry and Trade Huynh Ngoc Duong said the official exports to South Korea, following similar shipments to Japan, will open up opportunities for the product to head elsewhere in Asia and the world.

The province targets posting export revenue of over $1.6 billion this year.
