Design of pedestrian bridge crossing Saigon River approved

Hoài Niệm -

Bridge takes the shape of a mangrove palm leaf.

The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has approved the architectural design of a pedestrian bridge crossing the Saigon River.

The design was created by a joint venture between Chodai-Takashi Niwa Architects and the Chodai- Kiso Jiban Vietnam Company Limited.

The bridge takes the shape of a mangrove palm leaf, optimizing the pillar systems on the river bed and near the riverbanks to create high navigational clearance.

Its design also provides a good view to pedestrians crossing over the bridge.

The design was chosen from 12 solutions from 54 consulting units.

The bridge is for pedestrians and special-use vehicles of the disabled. All business activities are prohibited on the bridge.

It will be located between Ba Son Bridge and the Saigon River Tunnel. One end will be at Bach Dang Wharf Park in District 1 and the other in the Thu Thiem New Urban Area in Thu Duc city.

The space on the riverbanks under the bridge will be venues for entertainment activities.
