Gold prices in Vietnam surged to a historic high on August 18, with SJC-branded gold bars reaching VND125 million ($4,752) per tael.
The price was up VND500,000 ($19) from the previous day.
One tael equals 37.5 grams, or 1.2 ounces.
Gold rings also saw sharp increases, climbing to VND119.8 million ($4,555) per tael, up VND300,000 ($11.4) day-on-day.
On the international market, gold prices rose by 0.4% to reach $3,350.6 per tael the same day. At this level, domestic prices in Vietnam remain around VND16.97 million ($645) per tael higher than global levels.
