Experts: Indicators on labor market and employment needed

Director of the Employment Department at the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Vu Trong Binh has proposed that VnEconomy / Vietnam Economic Times coordinate with the Department to build a set of national indicators on the labor market and employment, to be released annually.

He made the suggestion at a conference in central Da Nang city on April 14 on communications in the field of employment.

Editor-in-Chief of VnEconomy / Vietnam Economic Times, Dr. Chu Van Lam, told the gathering that Vietnam’s labor market is quite vibrant but there are no indicators for making proper assessments.

In the US, for example, jobs data is released regularly and has a great impact on the health of the US economy and on macro policies, he said.

The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs coordinates annually with the Ministry of Information and Communications to build and implement employment communications plans to help workers understand and access employment policies.

Information provision and communications data on employment are not stable, however, and fail to boost efficiency in communications tasks.

Former Editor-in-Chief of the Labor and Society Magazine Nguyen Trung Chinh said it is necessary to build a coordination mechanism between State management agencies and the press to develop diverse and attractive communications on employment.
