Over 2 million farmer households nationwide got training about digital skills and nearly 50,000 farm produce were put on sales on various e-commerce platforms with thousands of online transactions completed as of April, 2024, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).
These figures demonstrated initial efficiency of digital transformation in agriculture, the ministry reported at a conference held on May 14 on promoting digitalization in the area.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan said the ministry has worked with other ministries and industries to integrate digital technology into agriculture, such as the remote sensing technology and digital platforms for product traceability.
Mr. Nguyen Hoai Nam, Deputy Secretary General of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), said digital transformation could help fishery enterprises reduce costs by between 7% and 25%.
Addressing the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang noted that digital transformation in agriculture should be made simple so that all farmers can be engaged in.
He asked the sector to focus on improving administrative reform, developing database and digital infrastructure and creating favorable conditions for enterprises and farmers to conduct digital transformation.
The Deputy Prime Minister directed the MARD to collaborate with the Ministry of Public Security in expediting the registration of fishing vessels, in an effort to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
