The Vietnam–United Kingdom Semiconductor Forum was held in Hanoi on August 18, marking a major step in Vietnam’s efforts to strengthen its role in the global semiconductor supply chain.
Co-organized by the National Innovation Center (NIC) and the British Embassy in Vietnam, the event brought together experts, businesses, and researchers from both countries.
The forum set the stage for future collaboration between the two countries in areas such as workforce training and joint investment projects, opening new opportunities for innovation and partnership.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Vu Quoc Huy, Director of the NIC, highlighted the strategic importance of the semiconductor industry, noting that the Vietnamese Government has identified it as a priority sector. He cited recent policy moves, including a national strategy for semiconductor development and a program to train 50,000 semiconductor engineers by 2030.
British Ambassador to Vietnam Iain Frew underscored that semiconductors serve as a foundation for expanded cooperation between the two countries in areas such as artificial intelligence, digital healthcare, digital education, and fintech.
Experts believe that with strong commitment from both sides, Vietnam has an opportunity to move beyond its current role as a processing and assembly hub and advance higher up the global supply chain, strengthening its position as an emerging technology hub in the region.
