Feasibility study for HCMC - Can Tho railway completed

The Ministry of Transport has asked six localities where the Ho Chi Minh City - Can Tho city railway line will pass through to provide opinions on the recently-completed feasibility study for the $9 billion project.

Localities include Ho Chi Minh City, southern Binh Duong province, and the Mekong Delta’s Can Tho city and Vinh Long, Tien Giang, and Long An provinces.

Running between An Binh railway station in Binh Duong and Can Tho train station, the railway line has a total length of 174 km.

There will be 15 train stations and eleven maintenance depots.

The route will be used to transport passengers, with a speed limit of 190 km/h, and cargo at a speed limit of 120 km/h.

The project aims at enhance links between Ho Chi Minh City and the southern key economic zone, and Can Tho city, which is the economic center of the Mekong Delta.

Construction will be under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
