The first shipments of Vietnam's fresh coconuts have officially arrived in China via road transportation, marking a significant milestone in agricultural trade between the two countries.

According to a report from Tin Tuc online newspaper (baotintuc.vn),  the product was granted market access by Chinese authorities in August 2024.

On October 15, a refrigerated truck carrying 2,700 fresh coconuts, weighing 21.6 tons and valued at 110,000 yuan ($15,451), successfully cleared customs at the Hekou Border Gate in China's Yunnan province. This shipment, originating from the Mekong Delta's Ben Tre province, represents the first instance of fresh coconuts being exported from Vietnam to China by road.

According to Chinese media, the entire process, from harvesting to reaching the border gate, took less than three days. After completing entry procedures and passing customs inspections, the shipment was transported to a distribution center in China's Kunming city for sale in various locations.

Later the same day, another shipment of 22.4 tons of fresh coconuts, valued at 98,000 yuan (nearly $13,800), was transported to the Youyi Guan Border Gate in Pingxiang City, China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The shipment cleared customs after passing inspections, entering the Chinese market.

These successful initial shipments demonstrate the growing commitment of both Vietnam and China to promote the supply and export of high-quality agricultural products, deepening trade cooperation and implementing agreements outlined in recent joint statements between the two countries..
