The Ministry of Construction held a forum on November 8 where discussions centered on improving the legal framework, mechanisms, and policies to further accelerate the development of green and sustainable urban areas in Vietnam.

The “Vietnam Urban Sustainability Summit 2023” forum focused on matters relating to the management and sustainability of Vietnam’s urban areas by 2030 with a vision to 2050. It discussed three issues in-depth: urban planning towards sustainable urban development; digital transformation in the management of urban development; and developing urban areas that are environmentally-friendly and resilient to climate change.

It also focused on solutions to remove obstacles to reinforce the role of the private sector in building smart urban areas and to encourage the application of initiatives and advanced technologies in urban development.

The forum took place as urban areas around Vietnam begin implementing Politburo Resolution No. 06-NQ/TW dated January 24, 2022, on the planning, construction, management, and sustainable development of urban areas in Vietnam to 2030 with a vision to 2045, Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi said.

“This is the first time the Politburo has issued a specific resolution on urban management and development,” he told the gathering. “It demonstrates the role of Vietnam’s urban area network while setting forth strategic orientations, with requirements, duties, and solutions significant to the development of Vietnam’s urban areas in the new era.”

On November 11, 2022, the government issued Resolution No. 148/NQ-CP on an action plan to implement Resolution No. 06-NQ/TW.
