Germany recognizes new Vietnamese passports

New passports issued from March 1 contain information on the holder’s place of birth.

Germany has officially recognized the new version of Vietnamese passports issued from January 1 and containing information on the holder’s place of birth, the German Embassy in Vietnam announced on February 17.

Passports issued between July 1, 2022, and December 31, 2022, without the place of birth on the identity page, are still recognized, providing they are valid and contain information about the place of birth in the appendix.

In July 2022, Germany was one of the first countries to temporarily end issuing visas to Vietnamese citizens possessing the new version of the passport due to a number of technical factors.

By August 2022, it began to temporarily recognize the new version of Vietnamese passports containing additional information regarding place of birth.
