The Vietnamese Government was ranked 39th out of 193 countries in terms of AI readiness in a 2023 report from the UK-based Oxford Insights.
This marks a jump of 19 places compared to 2022, the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) online newspaper reported.
Oxford Insights’ annual report looks at the preparedness of governments to use AI to deliver public services to citizens.
The report includes 39 indicators that measure governments’ digital capacity, technological capabilities, and data infrastructure.
With a total AI readiness score of 54.48, Vietnam ranked ninth in the East Asia region.
Its score was also higher than East Asia’s average of 51.41, which places East Asia fourth among the nine global regions covered in the report.
Vietnam aims to be among the top 4 nations in ASEAN and the top 50 globally in AI research, development, and application by 2030, under the National Strategy for the Research, Development, and Application of Artificial Intelligence to 2030.
