The Ha Tinh Provincial People’s Committee in Vietnam’s north-central region has approved a plan to exploit eleven local mines for construction materials for the Eastern North-South Expressway project.
The project’s section passing through Ha Tinh province stretches 102 km.
Materials are also needed to build three access roads to the expressway with a total length of 12.18 km.
The exploitation of the eleven mines will meet construction needs, according to the project contractors.
Construction of the Eastern North-South Expressway is behind schedule due to a shortage of construction materials. The Ministry of Transport (MoT) last month tasked localities with urgently completing procedures to exploit mines and submit these to authorized agencies for approval, to accelerate construction progress.
The expressway (phase 2) stretches 729 km in length and is divided into 12 component projects operating independently in the public investment form, with total capital of nearly VND147 trillion ($6.5 billion).
Construction of ten of the component projects requires some 17.1 million cu m of stone, 8.95 million cu m of sand, and 45.3 million of soil, according to the MoT.
