Northern Hai Duong province is seeking opportunities for cooperation between local and overseas businesses to boost the value and brand of its farm produce in both the domestic and international markets.

This was the key message from provincial authorities at a recent conference held jointly by the Hai Duong Department of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Trade Promotion Agency to boost the consumption of Hai Duong’s carrots and other farm produce.

According to Deputy Chairman of the Hai Duong Provincial People’s Committee Tran Van Quan, the province produces about 750,000 tons of rice, 900,000 tons of vegetables and root vegetables, 300,000 tons of fruit, and some 200,000 tons of livestock and poultry meat and seafood.

“Thanks to the application of advanced science and technology as well as digital transformation, most of these products have been granted planting areas code, VietGAP and GlobalGAP certification, and traceability, which enables the formation of supply chain models,” said Mr. Quan.

Many products are exported in large quantities and markets include high-end countries such as the EU, the US, Japan, and South Korea.

Hai Duong plants carrots on around 1,400 ha and yields over 70,000 tons annually under VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards. Apart from 30 per cent of the vegetables being set aside for domestic consumption, carrots are exported to the Middle East, South Korea, Japan, the EU, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.
