Under a newly-approved plan to develop social housing in the 2021-2025 period, Hanoi will need to build 6.8 million square meters of space.
It has completed four social housing projects with about 330,000 square meters in space since early 2021. Forty-six projects on 2.9 million square meters are still in progress while the implementation of another five projects is under consideration.
During the 2021-2025 period, the capital is determined to speed up the implementation and completion of 22 projects that have been approved for investment, have basically finished site clearance, are preparing for investment, or are under construction and scheduled to be completed.
Total investment capital for social housing in the 2021-2025 period is estimated at VND12.35 trillion ($521 million), from the city budget and social sources.
The Hanoi People’s Committee has requested that relevant authorities balance demand for social housing in inner-city and suburban districts to ensure the appropriate allocation of housing to those in need.
