Authorities of Dong Nai province in southern Vietnam, in cooperation with Vietnam Electricity (EVN), held a groundbreaking ceremony on August 19 for the Tri An Hydropower Plant Expansion Project.
The project, with a total investment of nearly VND 4 trillion ($152 million), will add an installed capacity of 200MW alongside the existing Tri An hydropower facility.
According to the plan, Turbine Unit No. 1 will begin generating electricity in the third quarter of 2027, while the installation of Turbine Unit No. 2 and the entire expansion project are expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of the same year.
Once operational, the plant will supply an average of 113 million kWh annually.
The expansion is expected to improve power generation capacity for the southern region, particularly during peak demand periods.
The project was approved by the Prime Minister as part of the National Power Development Plan for 2021–2030, with a vision to 2050.
