Hanoi metro line raises investment due to delays

Anh Tú -

Capital for Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station line increased to nearly $1.5bln.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang has signed a decision approving an increase to the investment capital for the Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station metro line by more than VND1.9 trillion ($80 million) to VND34.826 trillion ($1.49 billion).

Project implementation has also been extended to 2027 from 2022.

Hanoi authorities have attributed project delays to slow site clearance and technical infrastructure relocation, limited investor capacity, and poor coordination among relevant departments and agencies.

As of April, 2023, around 76.5 per cent of the project had been completed, with work on the elevated section done while construction of the underground section stands at 33 per cent.

The Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station line runs 12.5 km from Nhon in Nam Tu Liem district via Kim Ma Street to Hanoi Railway Station in Dong Da district. Work began in 2010 at an estimated cost of $1.2 billion, but several delays have pushed it out to nearly $1.5 billion.
