Communes, wards, units, and enterprises in Hanoi City have proposed nearly 1,400 locations for installing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, serving both public transport and private vehicles.
This information was released at a recent meeting reporting on the progress of "green" transport transformation in Hanoi.
The city's Department of Construction stated that Hanoi Bus Station Joint Stock Company has coordinated the installation of charging stations at three bus terminals. Specifically, Giap Bat Bus Station has 40 charging points operational from June 10; Gia Lam Bus Station has 34 charging points operational from July 15; and My Dinh Bus Station is currently reviewing arrangements, with operation expected in Q3 2025.
The Hanoi City Technical Infrastructure Center has surveyed several parks and public parking lots, identifying 19 potential locations for charging station installation.
The Ministry of Science and Technology has published 23 national standards directly related to EV charging poles and stations.
Specifically, there are 8 national standards for EV charging pole/station systems, regulating general technical requirements, electromagnetic compatibility of equipment, digital communication between charging poles and EVs, and safety requirements for installation systems. There are 3 national standards for EV charging wires and cables, related to technical requirements and test methods for charging cables with a rated voltage up to 0.6/1 kV, applicable to both AC and DC charging.
Additionally, there are 7 national standards for switches, sockets, and plugs for EV charging poles/stations, and 5 national standards for electricity metering equipment.
However, a regulation on the electric charging system is currently lacking. The ministry has completed a draft regulation and is continuing to solicit feedback, with expected issuance in November 2025.
