The Ministry of Transport has asked the Hanoi People’s Committee to allocate capital and speed up site clearance work to hasten construction of new road and rail bridges crossing the Duong River.
Construction in the first phase began in July.
At a cost of over VND1.84 trillion ($78.2 million), the project includes two components: a rail bridge and a road bridge in Long Bien and Gia Lam districts.
The rail bridge has a total length of 1,000 meters and will be built 16.5 meters upstream from the existing Duong Bridge, which is shared by both road and rail.
The new rail bridge features a dual-gauge track of 1,000 mm and 1,435 mm, with a speed limit of 80 km/h. It is also near the existing bridge.
Construction will help complete the transport infrastructure network in the region and in Hanoi and boost urban development to the north of the Red River.
