Ho Chi Minh City should be envisioned to become a center of economy, finance, services, culture, education - training, science - technology, and innovation of Southeast Asia and Asia under the master plan for the city in the 2021 - 2030 period, with a vision to 2050, according to Party General Secretary and State President To Lam.
Chairing a meeting of the Politburo held in Hanoi on August 23 to discuss the master plan, the Party leader stressed the need for the master plan to clearly demonstrate the particularly important role and position of the southern city as an economic, cultural, educational - training, and scientific - technological center of Vietnam.
It is necessary to optimize land, water surface, underground, and air spaces; rationally arrange urban, service, industrial, and rural spaces; and develop modern means of transport that match the status of a global city in the future, he said.
At the meeting, the Politburo basically agreed on the major and important guidelines and viewpoints orienting planning work for the city.
