Ho Chi Minh City is preparing for investment in additional metro lines while Metro Lines No. 1 and No. 2 are still under construction, according to the municipal Department of Transport.
The city already has plans for the construction of eight metro lines with a total length of 220 km and estimated investment of nearly $25 billion.
Over 95 per cent of work on Metro Line No. 1 is completed and it is scheduled to be put into operation next July.
Construction of the first package of Metro Line No. 2 linking Ben Thanh Market and Tham Luong Depot in District 12 kicked off in June.
Meanwhile, Metro Line No. 3a connecting Ben Thanh Market with Tan Kien and Line No. 5 connecting Can Giuoc Bus Station with Saigon Bridge are waiting for investment policy approval and seeking funding and investment.
The other metro lines are still on the drawing board.
