Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Tourism and Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) signed a memorandum of understanding on October 21 to promote tourism and develop air route networks during 2026–2030.

The agreement focuses on attracting more flights to Ho Chi Minh City and neighbouring destinations, promoting tourism at airports, sharing market data and improving passenger experiences.

At the signing ceremony, Mr. Pham Huy Binh, director of the city’s Department of Tourism, said airports were not only gateways for visitors but also among the first points of contact shaping their impressions of a destination. Closer cooperation between the aviation and tourism sectors would help promote the city, extend visitors’ stays, increase spending and create growth opportunities for both industries.

In the first nine months of 2026, Ho Chi Minh City welcomed an estimated 8.52 million international visitors and 39.57 million domestic travellers. Tourism revenue reached approximately VND282.7 trillion ($10.7 billion), up 43.4% year on year and equivalent to 85.7% of the full-year target.

The partnership will enable the city to promote its attractions through airport spaces, reaching travellers as they begin or conclude their journeys, alongside conventional tourism events and online channels.

It also aims to shift aviation promotion beyond simply increasing visitor numbers towards attracting higher-spending tourists, business travellers and international visitors seeking diverse experiences.

Strengthening tourism links between Ho Chi Minh City and destinations across its expanded development area is another priority. Con Dao has been identified as a specific area for cooperation, linking tourism development with airport operating capacity.
