Ho Chi Minh City's People's Committee has recently approved a plan for developing infrastructure for 5G network and Internet of Things (IoT) services across the city from 2025 to 2027.

This initiative is part of the city's efforts to advance infrastructure for 5G and IoT, under its action plan No. 4354/KH-UBND dated June 14, 2025.

This is in line with the Politburo's Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024, which focuses on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation.

The city is also enhancing the sharing and joint use of passive telecommunications infrastructure among telecom enterprises and other technical infrastructures. The aim is to develop modern, multifunctional passive telecommunications infrastructure that is environmentally friendly and suitable for urban landscapes.

By 2027, the city aims to complete the 4G mobile network infrastructure (BTS 4G stations) and improve the quality of mobile broadband Internet services with download speeds ranging from 40Mbit/s to 100Mbit/s, as measured by the i-Speed application developed by the Vietnam Internet Center under the Ministry of Science and Technology.

A key focus is on expanding 5G coverage (BTS 5G stations) in central areas, public administrative zones, high-tech parks, IT clusters, industrial zones, densely populated areas, and public spaces such as train stations, ports, airports, and public transportation systems following the TOD model.

The goal is to achieve 5G service coverage for over 90 per cent of the city's population, with mobile broadband Internet services offering download speeds from 100Mbit/s to 500Mbit/s.
