North-central Nghe An province aims to develop its Southeast Economic Zone to attract 120 projects with total required capital of VND75-90 trillion ($3.3-3.95 billion), of which foreign investment is expected to reach $2.26 billion.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has said that central Da Nang city’s development is not yet commensurate with its distinct potential and outstanding opportunities. He touched on five tasks it needs to complete: improving institutions, mechanisms, and policies; removing difficulties and obstacles facing production and business; promoting public-private cooperation; developing high-quality human resources; and building strategic infrastructure.

With the 18-MW Nam Pac 2 hydropower plant connected to the national grid on December 1, the 16-MW Nam Pac 1 hydropower plant will also be operated by the Kosy Group before December 31. The two plants, in northern mountainous Lai Chau province, will provide total electricity output of 150 million kWh per year, helping address electricity shortages in the province and in Vietnam’s north.

The three North-South Expressway public-private partnership (PPP) projects are proceeding slowly due to tardy access to credit. The Ministry of Transport will handle contract violations if investors and project enterprises do not raise enough funds to implement projects.

The Can Tho City People’s Committee has issued a list of 23 projects calling for investment in the 2021-2025 period. Two are on the construction of infrastructure at industrial parks, on a total area of 1,400 ha.

In order to reach at least 96 per cent of the planned disbursement of public investment capital this year, from now until January 31 the Ministry of Transport (MoT) will increase the disbursement schedule by nearly VND10 trillion ($441 million). In the 2021-2025 period, the MoT plans to begin construction of 67 new projects, with priority being given to the early implementation of six key national projects.
