The Investor of the Quynh Lap LNG-fired power plant project in central Nghe An province received the investment certificate on the sidelines of the Vietnam-Korea Economic Forum held in Hanoi on April 23.

The investor comprises SK Innovation (from South Korea), Petrovietnam Power Corporation, and Nghe An Sugar Company.

The project, with total investment of VND59.37 trillion (around $2.3 billion), will generate electricity using liquefied natural gas (LNG) and include LNG storage and regasification facilities in line with Vietnam’s national energy plan. It will feature a 1,500MW power plant, a 250,000-cubic-meter LNG storage system, a dedicated port, and supporting infrastructure across nearly 153 hectares.

Expected to be completed and put into operation between 2025 and 2030, the plant aims to strengthen national energy security while boosting industrial development in Nghe An.

Separately, local authorities and SK affiliates, including SK Telecom, signed a memorandum of understanding to develop an AI data center and related digital infrastructure, targeting global demand and advancing high-tech investment in the region.
