Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh instructed northern Lai Chau province to promote its internal strength for rapid, green, and sustainable growth during a working session with local authorities on November 19.
He stressed that Lai Chau holds great potential and advantages for socio-economic development, particularly in agriculture, tourism, services, hydropower, mining, border trade, and imports and exports.
In particular, the province boasts diverse mineral, land, and water resources as well as a huge forest area of over 494,000 ha, which are favorable for green and sustainable development, he said.
In order to further boost growth, the province needs to build and promote its economic drivers, prioritizing agricultural development, tourism, manufacturing and processing, and the border economy following the digital, green, and circular economic model, Prime Minister Chinh said.
The province should also speed up administrative reform and improvements to its business and investment environment.
It posted average annual gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth of 3.91 per cent in the 2022-2023 period.
In the first ten months of this year, the retail sale of products and services rose 12.9 per cent year-on-year.
