Vietjet Air has announced the appointment of a senior leadership team.
From April 6, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao became Chairwoman of the Board of Directors, succeeding Ms. Nguyen Thanh Ha, while Managing Director Dinh Viet Phuong was appointed new CEO.
The appointments are part of the carrier’s development plan, to continue to expand and develop strongly in the future.
Ms. Thao is the founder of Vietjet and has a desire to make the flying dreams of Vietnamese and foreigners come true. The first self-made female billionaire in Vietnam and Southeast Asia, she has held the position of Vice Chairwoman of the Board of Directors and President and CEO of Vietjet for many years, and together with Ms. Ha brought revolutionary changes to the aviation industry.
Mr. Phuong has worked at Vietjet since its establishment and assumed the position of Permanent Vice President and Managing Director in October 2020. While the aviation industry was facing challenges and difficulties due to Covid-19, he made an important contribution to helping Vietjet overcome and recover. He has been a leader at many large enterprises, and holds an Engineering Degree from the Vietnam Maritime University, a Master of Business Administration from CFVG (France), and a PhD from the Moscow National Academy of Transport.
Vietjet carried 20.5 million passengers on 116,000 flights last year, a 20 per cent increase in domestic passengers compared to the same period of pre-pandemic 2019. Total assets increased 30 per cent to more than VND67 trillion ($2.9 billion), with long-term debt-to-equity and liquidity ratios remaining at 0.7 and 1.3, respectively, which are considered good indicators in the aviation industry. The carrier paid a total of VND4.349 trillion (191 million) in direct and indirect taxes, fees, and charges in 2022. This year is expected to be a year of strong growth in international air transport, which offers opportunities to airlines with good financial and operational capacity, like Vietjet.
The appointment of experienced and enthusiastic leaders promises to bring Vietjet into a new stage of growth and development, contributing to innovation in aviation and promoting economic development in Vietnam and the world.
