The Mekong Delta’s Long An province has approved investment policies for 14 social housing projects in the 2023-2024 period, according to the Provincial People’s Committee.
They cover 65 ha and will have over 14,600 units.
Twenty-one other social housing projects are now being implemented, covering over 42 ha with a total floor space of 916,000 sq m. Upon completion, they will supply more than 15,500 units for 46,500 low-income earners and workers at industrial parks.
However, local authorities have said demand for social houses remains significant.
There are 37 industrial parks in Long An, of which 24 have average occupancy rates of 86.45 per cent. The number of workers at these parks stands at 212,000, which is expected to increase to 305,000 by 2030.
Workers from other provinces account for half of all workers, resulting in huge demand for accommodation.
