The National Salary Council has submitted to the government for approval a plan to increase the regional minimum wage by 6 per cent starting from July 1, 2024.
This would represent a monthly increase of VND250,000-280,000 ($10.4-11.6), depending on the region.
Under the proposal, the monthly minimum wage for Regions I, II, III, and IV will rise to VND4.96 million ($206), VND4.41 million ($183), VND3.86 million ($160), and VND3.45 million ($143), respectively.
The hourly minimum wage will also increase by 6 per cent starting from the same date, with the highest increase in Region I, of VND23,800 ($0.9) per hour.
Regionally-based monthly minimum wages vary between the four different regions based on four separate benchmarks determined by living standards in each area.
Region 1 covers urban Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City; Region 2 covers rural Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City along with the cities of Can Tho, Da Nang, and Hai Phong; Region 3 applies to cities and districts in northern Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Hai Duong, and Vinh Phuc provinces; and Region 4 encompasses all remaining localities.
