Every day, millions of Kinh Do, OREO, and Cosy products are produced and delivered to consumers across Vietnam. Behind each of these familiar products is a story of dedicated professionals who are quietly setting new benchmarks for sustainable manufacturing in the country. Mondelez Kinh Do, the company behind a leading portfolio of brands including Kinh Do mooncakes, Kinh Do fresh bakery, Cosy, OREO, AFC, LU, Solite, and Cadbury chocolate, is delivering on its mission to lead Vietnam's snack industry sustainably.
This journey unfolds daily across two factories in Ho Chi Minh City and Hung Yen, built on three strategic pillars: resource optimization, world-class operations, and people development.:
Resource optimization for sustainable growth
Every manufacturer faces a fundamental challenge: as production scales up, environmental pressure typically increases in tandem. Mondelez Kinh Do addresses this challenge by driving robust production growth while proactively minimizing its environmental footprint.
"We set ambitious targets to expand production capacity to meet market demand, while continuously reducing resource consumption per unit of output. For us, sustainable development means growing the business while progressively minimizing our environmental impact over time," said Ms. Bang Kim Ngan, Plant Director of Mondelez Kinh Do in Ho Chi Minh City.
This approach is validated by measurable outcomes. Over the past three years, the company's Ho Chi Minh City plant has reduced water consumption per tonne of product by more than 30 percent, equivalent to thousands of cubic meters of water preserved for the community. Food waste has been cut by more than 50 percent, while carbon emissions have remained stable for eight consecutive years despite significant increases in production output.
The Hung Yen plant is making similar progress. During the first half of 2026, 71 percent of food waste was recycled into new value streams through circular economy initiatives. Water-saving projects have conserved thousands of cubic meters of water, while rooftop solar installations have reduced hundreds of tonnes of CO₂ emissions, supporting the company's long-term ambition of transitioning to 100 percent renewable electricity.
Ms. Ngan emphasizes: "As one of the leading companies in the snack industry, we see it as our responsibility to drive a sustainable ecosystem in Vietnam - one where every link in the value chain creates lasting value. For example, we partner with leading organizations in collection, sorting, and recycling to enhance post-consumer packaging recovery, advancing sustainable packaging and the circular economy in Vietnam."
Guided by the global mission "Snacking Made Right," Mondelez Kinh Do in Vietnam is demonstrating that industry leadership is not measured by scale alone, but by doing the right thing and safeguarding resources for future generations.
Sustainable operations in practice
The most significant differentiator in sustainable manufacturing is not the ambition of strategic targets on paper, but the ability to embed those targets into the daily operational rhythm of the entire organization.
"We believe that sustainability goals only deliver lasting value when they become part of the daily operational workflow. No matter how ambitious a goal may be, it must be translated into specific actions and aligned from leadership through to every member of the production team," said Ms. Ngan.
The key enabler of this process is a management system that integrates standards for safety, quality, productivity, sustainable production, and people development into a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
The Ho Chi Minh City plant has officially become the first Mondelēz International biscuit factory in Southeast Asia to achieve a level of operational maturity that places it among the most mature facilities in the AMEA (Asia, Middle East, and Africa) region.
Operational excellence is reinforced by a strong execution culture. At the Hung Yen facility, every employee is guided by three core operating principles: safety as the foundation for protecting people, quality as the commitment to consumers, and continuous improvement as a daily responsibility.
This execution mindset earned the Hung Yen plant the title of "Champion Plant in Southeast Asia." These meaningful milestones from both plants are clear evidence that world-class operational capabilities are being firmly established by Vietnamese talent right here in Vietnam.
Sustainability starts with people
Machinery can be upgraded, and processes can be optimized, but a manufacturing model is only truly sustainable when its people never stop learning and growing.
Ms. Ngan shared: "At Mondelez Kinh Do, people are always at the center of every strategy. That is why we invest heavily in building team capabilities through our philosophy of 'Leader Grows Leader.'”
Through programs such as Team Lead 2.0 and the comprehensive "Power the Future" capability strategy, frontline leaders are equipped with the capabilities to become drivers of improvement, progressively building a workforce that meets the most rigorous standards across the entire supply chain while making a meaningful contribution to developing high-quality manufacturing talent in Vietnam.
The company's progress has been recognized through multiple industry accolades, including four consecutive years among Vietnam's Top 100 Sustainable Enterprises, repeated recognition by the Golden Dragon Awards, three consecutive years in the Top 50 Corporate Sustainability Awards, and recognition by HR Asia as one of the Best Companies to Work for in Asia.
For Mondelez Kinh Do, the goal of leading the snack industry sustainably is realized through the capabilities of every team member and tangible operational results. This is the solid foundation upon which the company continues to fulfill its "Snacking Made Right" mission, making a meaningful contribution to Vietnam's green transformation and national sustainable development goals.
