China’s General Administration of Customs has officially given permission to an additional 23 Vietnamese enterprises to export seafood to the country, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The result is part of efforts by relevant agencies at the ministry to negotiate with the Chinese side on handling technical barriers to expand markets for agricultural, forestry, and fishery products.
More than 800 Vietnamese enterprises are now eligible to export goods to China.
Last year, it overtook Japan for the first time to become Vietnam’s second-largest seafood import source.
Many businesses expect that seafood exports will bounce back from the second quarter of the year, with turnover likely to reach $10 billion for the year as a whole.
