NA agrees to allocate $100mln to connect Con Dao to national grid

Nhĩ Anh -

Island district faces serious power shortages.

National Assembly (NA) delegates have agreed to allocate over VND2.5 trillion ($101.9 million) for Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) to implement a project providing electricity from the national power grid to southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau province’s Con Dao island district.

The funds will be sourced from the mid-term public investment plan.

Approved by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh last June, the project will connect the island district with the grid via a 110 kV transmission line stretching 102.5 km. Total investment is estimated at VND5 trillion ($205 million).

This was part of legislators’ discussions during their extra-ordinary session on January 16 about supplementary capital from the central budget for the mid-term public investment plan in the 2021-2025 period.

They stressed that project implementation holds great significance, contributing to socio-economic development and social security for the island district.

Con Dao faces serious power shortages that cause difficulties in production and trade as well as people’s daily life.
