Vietnam’s securities market added 229,765 new investor accounts in August, according to the latest data from the Vietnam Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation (VSDC).
Domestic individual investors accounted for the overwhelming majority, with addition of 229,538 new accounts, while domestic institutional investors added 153 accounts only. Foreign individual investors opened 208 accounts and foreign institutions added 19 accounts.
The number of new accounts in August edged up from July but remained lower than in most other months since the beginning of 2026.
As of August 31, the total number of investor accounts on the market reached 13.89 million, a substantial increase from 12.12 million at the end of January. The market therefore added 1.77 million accounts in the first eight months of the year, equivalent to an increase of approximately 14.6%.
Domestic individual investors continued to dominate the market, with 13.81 million accounts as of the end of August. Domestic institutional investors held 20,277 accounts.
Foreign investors accounted for a much smaller share, with 47,719 individual accounts and 4,914 institutional accounts, bringing the total number of foreign investor accounts to 52,633.
The continued expansion in investor accounts indicates growing participation in Vietnam’s securities market, particularly among domestic individual investors.
