The Quang Binh Provincial People’s Committee organized a working session with the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) on March 4 regarding the construction of a second passenger terminal (T2) and the expansion of the aircraft apron at Dong Hoi Airport.

Addressing the meeting, a representative from the ACV said the two sub-projects will help raise the airport’s capacity to 3 million passengers a year, with the additional apron space increasing aircraft slots to eight from the previous four.

The project will cover an area of more than 15 ha and have total investment of over $74.6 million, the entirety of which will be provided by the ACV. Construction of the T2 terminal will begin in the third quarter of this year, with completion set for the first quarter of 2026. The expansion of the aircraft apron is expected to take 17 months, with construction coinciding with the schedule for the T2 terminal.

At the March 4 meeting, Quang Binh provincial leaders along with representatives from relevant agencies, departments, and units voiced their opinions on the challenges the project may face and suggested appropriate and feasible solutions.

The Chairman of the Quang Binh Provincial People’s Committee affirmed that the expansion and upgrades of Dong Hoi Airport is a key project for the province. The Provincial People’s Committee has therefore directed relevant departments, agencies, units, and localities to coordinate with related agencies to focus on resolving all matters and ensuring the project progress.

He also urged the ACV to promptly select a contractor so the project begins shortly and remains on schedule.
