Central Nghe An province has set a target of attracting $6 billion to $8 billion in registered foreign direct investment (FDI) during 2026-2030, as it shifts towards a more selective investment strategy focused on quality, efficiency and wider economic benefits.
The provincial People’s Committee recently issued a plan for developing the foreign-invested economy, with a policy on moving away from investment attraction based primarily on volume towards projects offering greater technological value and stronger contributions to the local economy.
The province expects registered FDI to average $1.2 billion to $1.6 billion annually over the five-year period. Actual investment disbursements are projected to total $5 billion to $6.5 billion, equivalent to $1 billion to $1.3 billion a year.
Notably, Nghe An aims for invetment projects from developed economies with strong technological capabilities, financial resources and modern management expertise to account for 70% of newly registered foreign investment.
The province also seeks to attract large-scale and strategic projects, as well as multinational corporations capable of establishing high-value-added manufacturing and supply chains.
Priority sectors include electronics, semiconductor chips, digital equipment, artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, biotechnology, high-tech agriculture, green energy and modern logistics.
Nghe An will also encourage investors to establish research and development centres and innovation hubs to promote technology transfer and strengthen local production capabilities.
