More than 100,000 rooftop solar power projects have been installed across the country, accounting for 50% of the total solar power capacity, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

With decreasing production costs, solar power has become an affordable source of electricity, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long said at a recent conference held in Hanoi to review a project on commercial and industrial rooftop solar power.

Vietnam has potential and favorable conditions to develop solar power with low labor cost and huge sources of solar radiation, he said.

With a total solar power capacity of 17 GW, Vietnam has led ASEAN countries in terms of solar power development.
