Domestic investors registered over 158,000 new securities trading accounts during September, according to the Vietnam Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation (VSDC).
Of which, 158,212 accounts were owned by individual investors and 90 by institutional investors.
The figure brings the total number of securities trading accounts opened by individual investors to 1.57 million so far this year.
Also in September, foreign individual investors opened 180 new accounts, meanwhile the number of accounts owned by foreign institutional investors increased by 22.
September recorded the lowest number of new securities trading accounts opened over the past three months. It was blamed for the fluctuation of the stock market which was caused by the impacts of Typhoon Yagi on the economy of the northern region, as well as global situation, particularly the interest rate cut by FED.
As of the end of September, the total number of accounts reached 8.86 million.
Vietnam targets to have 9 million accounts by 2025 and 11 million accounts by 2030.
