Personal payment accounts stand at 180 million

Internet, mobile and QR code payments rising remarkably around Vietnam.

There were 180 million active personal payment accounts in Vietnam as of last November, according to the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV).

More than 77.41 per cent of adults in the country now have payment accounts.

Banking card services also developed steadily, with 145.79 million cards being active as of November.

The SBV also reported impressive growth in internet, mobile, and QR code payments. There are 85 payment service companies providing internet payment services and 52 providing mobile payment services.

The number of internet and mobile payment transactions has increased by 46.48 per cent and 90.12 per cent, respectively, each year on average. QR code payments have surged by an annual average of 471.13 per cent since 2018, figures from the SBV show.

Regarding the pilot use of accessing credit in telecommunications accounts for payments, known as Mobile Money, the number of customers using the method stood at more than 5.6 million as of the end of last September.

The total number of transactions through Mobile Money was over 47 million, with a total value of nearly VND2.39 trillion ($99 million).
