Pfizer Vietnam, Inc. was honored to receive a Prime Minister’s Certificate of Merit on November 30 for its achievements in supporting Vietnam’s healthcare sector fight Covid-19 in 2021.
Pfizer made a significant contribution to supplying Covid-19 vaccines to Vietnam. Mr. John Paul Pullicino Said Anthony, the former General Director of Pfizer Vietnam, was also awarded The Vietnam Friendship Order for his leadership at Pfizer in helping the Vietnamese Government fight Covid-19 in 2021.
Last year was a remarkable period in the fight against Covid-19. To quickly support Vietnam’s healthcare sector, Pfizer cooperated with the Ministry of Health (MoH) to complete delivery of about 110 million doses of its Covid-19 vaccine (BNT162b2) as quickly as possible, including about 51 million doses under an agreement with the MoH and about 60 million doses from donations.
A similar effort was extended to Vietnam’s regulatory and administrative body though the implementation of medical and scientific education to all related stakeholders to ensure that Vietnam met vaccine handling requirements.
Pfizer understood that defeating Covid-19 would require the power of science and unprecedented collaboration among scientists, companies, and governments around the world. That’s why it began its collaboration with BioNTech to jointly develop a Covid-19 vaccine using BioNTech’s messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine program while simultaneously investing in Pfizer’s global manufacturing capabilities to supply the vaccine at scale.
The goal was to bring a potential vaccine to the world and Vietnam faster, but with Pfizer’s same scientific rigor and commitment to quality and safety.
Pfizer is firmly committed to equitable and affordable access to Covid-19 vaccines for Vietnamese patients and people around the world. It has offered Covid-19 vaccines to Vietnam at “not-for-profit” prices. In the face of the global pandemic, with the purpose of “Breakthroughs that change patients’ lives”, it hopes its vaccine can help change patients’ lives in Vietnam. More than 3.8 billion doses of Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccines have been shipped to 180 countries and territories in every region of the world.
Receiving the Prime Minister’s Certificate of Merit is a major milestone in providing superb care and support to people and communities during the pandemic in 2021. Pfizer will continue to work in collaboration with government authorities to prevent Covid-19 and other non-communicable diseases.
According to Mr. Darrell Oh, General Director of Pfizer Vietnam, the prestigious Certificate of Merit is a source of pride for Pfizer Vietnam, with its contributions being recognized by the Vietnamese Government. This has important implications for the company in fulfilling its commitments with the Vietnamese Government to fight the pandemic together to protect people’s health.
“Through Pfizer’s global strategy, we work continuously towards achieving our goal of equitable access and strengthening healthcare systems, together with COVAX - an international initiative led by the World Health Organization (WHO) - to reduce the burden on the healthcare system in developing countries, including Vietnam,” said Mr. Oh.
Looking ahead, Pfizer will continue to follow the science and closely track emerging Covid variants to address the pandemic and further its efforts to provide access to vaccines. It is continuing to expand and enhance its manufacturing capabilities and processes, with plans to manufacture 4 billion doses of its vaccine worldwide in 2022.
This is the first time Pfizer Vietnam has received a Prime Minister’s Certificate of Merit.
