The upgrade of Phu Cat airport in south-central Binh Dinh province is expected to start before August 24 this year, according to the provincial People’s Committee.
Phu Cat Airport, built during the war, in the 1960s and early 1970s, has resumed operation since 1985. Due to its age and limited runway capacity, the airport can only accommodate small aircraft.
The upgrade project includes construction of a second runway primarily for civilian aviation, and additional aircraft apron, and expansion of passenger terminal.
The total investment capital for the project was estimated at approximately VND3.246 trillion ($128 million).
The project’s feasibility study is expected to get approval in May this year.
Its first phase is scheduled for completing within ten months.
