Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh arrived in California on September 17 (local time), starting a working visit to the US to attend the high-level week of the 78th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly and to carry out bilateral activities.

During the visit, which will run through September 23, the Prime Minister is scheduled to attend and address the high-level general debate at the UN General Assembly, UN Summits, and high-level meetings on global issues such as climate change and pandemic response.

Concerning bilateral activities, Prime Minister Chinh will meet the US Vice President, leaders of US Congress, national security advisors, and members of the US cabinet.

He will visit a number of leading US universities and businesses and the NASDAQ stock exchange, attend Vietnam - US trade and investment promotion conferences, and witness the signing of an agreement on establishing twin city relations between Ho Chi Minh City and New York City.

After arriving in California, the Prime Minister met with members of the Vietnamese community. He reviewed Vietnam-US relations and the elevation of ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during US President Joe Biden’s recent visit to Vietnam.

Two-way trade exceeded $123 billion in 2022 while bilateral cooperation in other fields continued to see important advancements, including science and technology, climate change response, and people-to-people exchanges.

The Prime Minister praised the contributions of the Vietnamese community abroad to the country’s development and hopes that Vietnamese businesses, intellectuals, and scientists in the US will continue to accompany the country’s development with specific projects and activities.
