Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called for utilizing the potential and advantages in developing the Red River Delta region rapidly and sustainably to make it a prominent growth driver and lead the country’s economic restructuring and growth model transformation.

He made the call at a conference in Quang Ninh province on February 12 on the implementation of the government’s action program to implement a Politburo resolution on directions for socio-economic development and ensuring defense and security in the Red River Delta to 2030 with a vision to 2045.

The Red River Delta is an important strategic region in terms of politics, economy, culture, society, the environment, defense and security, and sovereignty over sea and islands; is the northern gateway of Vietnam and ASEAN to China; and is an important bridge in international economic and cultural exchanges.

Prime Minister Chinh asked relevant ministries, sectors, and localities in the region to quickly build specific programs and plans of actions to realize the Politburo resolution and the government’s action plan.

Focus will be placed on perfecting institutions and on regional planning and policies on regional linkages; promoting regional economic development and economic restructuring; developing the sea-based economy; improving education and training to raise the quality of human resources; and ensuring defense and security.

To attract investment, it is necessary to build infrastructure, cut unnecessary administrative procedures, create a more favorable business and investment environment, and promptly hold dialogues to help enterprises address difficulties, the Prime Minister said.
