Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on June 14 requested relevant ministries, agencies and localities to take drastic measures to accelerate construction of expressways with the aim of completing 3,000 km of highways before December 31, 2025, the Government News has reported.

Chairing the 12th meeting of the State Steering Committee for National Key Transport Projects in Hanoi, PM Chinh set six key tasks that need to be done in the coming time, including completing site clearance for key and national projects; and tackling difficulties in relocating technical infrastructure for construction of expressways.

Other missions include finding different sources to ensure enough supply of construction materials for projects; dealing with issues relating to investment procedures of public-private-partnership (PPP) projects; and removing difficulties and obstacles facing investors and contractors, particularly those relating to site clearance and construction materials, according to the PM.

The total length of highways nationwide currently reaches 2,000km.

Vietnam targets to have 5,000 km of expressways by 2030.
